Break Forth (Updated)

Okay, we all know a few things about these two guys.

Erwin McManus, pastor of Mosaic, has said some really far out things. Like…

"The Greatest Enemy to the Movement of Jesus Christ is Christianity"

"I build my life not on the Word of God, but the voice of God. The Scriptures are to me the instrument that God has placed in history for me to learn the voice of God. I treasure the Scriptures." from interview on Relevant magazine

McManus is going to be the cohost at Robert Schuller's Rethink Conference (read more about the controversial Rethink Conference here). He has written several books, including Soul Cravings where he says we have to look inside ourselves to find God. He also wrote that strange book promoting ancient mysticism called The Barbarian Way. You can read more about McManus here.

Chris Seay was one of the launchers of the emerging church. He's a Baptist pastor and author who is collaborating with Brian McLaren on The Voice project, a retelling of the Bible as a collection of stories, poems and songs (-apologeticsindex.org).

And so when a friend sent me this thing lastnight, I was troubled greatly. What is a nice Bible teacher like Kay Arthur doing in a place like this with Erwin McManus and Chris Seay?

Lee Strobel is another one who will be speaking at Break Forth next January. Incidentally, he is also on the speaker lineup for Robert Schuller's Rethink conference!

When you join the dots, you see that something is wrong with this picture.

*UPDATE: You've GOT to hear this! Listen to Warren Smith report on Robert Schuller's "Re-think" conference in January. Why are prominent Christian leaders giving credibility to Schuller and this conference when it is stacked with "New Age" and other questionable issues and speakers? Smith concludes we need to "re-think Robert Schuller. A sobering hour.

Thanks for your comments Carla. Since I knew nothing about Breakforth, I was spurred by your article to do a little investigation of their website on my own. Wow, this is a big deal! It appears to be a real hotbed for the emerging church. I sure wouldn’t want to hear that my pastor was going there. Most of its workshops are all about how to “do” church better. Breakforth is the sweetheart of Arlen Salte and his wife, and many of its contributors focus on the experiential aspect of worship. Seems like another excuse to have a big party in the name of Christ. I really didn’t know much about Kay Arthur either until I checked out your link to PreceptAustin a couple of days ago. I was impressed by it and had decided that I would like to be doing more indepth Bible study using the method. I even watched one of Kay’s studies on the book of Daniel. She appears to be very solid scripturally, so I can see why you were dismayed to find her name on the list of Breakforth’s speakers. I must say however that nothing surprises me these days. I hear of something like this happening practically every day.

Here is an excerpt from a letter from Arlen Salte and his wife, founders of Breakforth, from their website:
“Dear Friend in Christ; …Through all our conferences, missions, resources, workshops and concerts, we desire to reinforce the strongest positions in the church! We are building leaders with handles for effective ministry, equipping the church for outreach and calling people to a life of faith. Our vision is huge. It is a God-sized vision. It includes bringing the Break Forth Canada conference throughout the world.”

An now for some artificial “Sweet”ner
I found this on Breakforth’s website at http://www.new-creation.net/quotes.htm:
“If worship is the high and holy art of spiritual architecture, Arlen Salte is one of our greatest living architects. His designs for living habitations of the divine are masterpieces of soulspace-–sound homes in which the soul can breathe and mature, sight blueprints that honor the past while snatching the future.”
Dr.Leonard Sweet, Author
Drew Theological School and George Fox University

Strange! I always thought the architect of the church was God Himself, with Christ as the chief cornerstone.

Well...isn't that just great.

Thanks for looking into that further Bonnie.
