Are you listening to Tony Campolo?

I hear things like this all the time from Christians. They are listening to the latest popular speaker and author and just love what they are hearing...or their church Bible study group wants to play the latest video by the same speaker because he is just so great...maybe they don't know, or maybe they just haven't heard, or maybe their church is not equipping them to be discerning. I don't understand it. These are fine Christian people from evangelical churches who say these things. But then, I was once in those shoes. Believing things that I had no idea were not even biblical. So now when I hear someone say "I'm listening to so and so, and he is so good...", I think - oh no, here we go again, not another thing, I am so tired of explaining about these things - so as my heart sinks to shoe level I just say something rather benign and lame, like, "Well, just be careful, he is rather emergent." Then I walk away and kick myself for not being more blunt and 'in your face.'

These are serious times. Christian are falling left and right for deceptive books and things that sound good but are another gospel.

So today, at the risk of repeating myself, and for the sake of someone else in these shoes who might happen to stop by - PLEASE, it is NOT a good idea to be listening to someone like Tony Campolo, okay? Maybe you heard him twenty years ago on James Dobson's program or something and thought he was good. But maybe it's time to do a double check. Just take a look here, and decide...
