The funny thing is that both Christians and New Agers, are telling us that we must practice this thing. This is not just about finding a nice quiet place to think, but quite the opposite. It’s referring to a stillness of the mind called THE SILENCE.
The silence is becoming a very popular thing these days. And now it's being introduced into schools...
"I experience the silence and then when I finish meditation, I take part of that silence with me into the day – and the whole day goes better."It's a most alarming thing is that The Silence is now being promoted to students as a stress reliever in the form of Transcendental Meditation...
-Quote from a student using meditation on the David Lynch Foundation website
What Scientists, Educators and Students SayIt’s all about health, they say. Meditation reduces stress levels, specially in the inner city schools where students are frisked before they enter the building every morning. So, these doctors of silence say, the benefit created by TM is the experience of “restful alertness.”
“Here is a program that any student from the age of 10 years and upwards can practice a few minutes twice a day—a technique that promotes more dynamism in activity and yet prevents the accumulation of stress that wreaks havoc on health. This is a key to better health.”

Deepak Chopra would agree...
...the stillness experienced in the state of pure consciousness during meditation is even more profound than any silence that is experienced during sleep or dream. The transformative power of the silence in meditation is subtler than sleep, and that is what allows for the changes in our mind-body that support higher states of consciousness. What a novel new solution. Change them from within. It all sounds good, but the Bible says that the only way a person can be transformed from within is when a sinner repents and turns from their sins and believes in Jesus Christ as Lord of their life. This new silence thing is nothing more than recycled Eastern religion and ancient mysticism. As we watch these things being [re]introduced into our churches and schools, we can't help but be reminded of King Solomon's wise words, when he said that there is nothing new under the sun.

"Silence is the great teacher, and to learn its lessons you must pay attention to it. There is no substitute for the creative inspiration, knowledge, and stability that come from knowing how to contact your core of inner silence. As the great Sufi poet, Rumi, wrote, 'Only let the moving waters calm down, and the sun and moon will be reflected on the surface of your being.'"The truth is, there is only one safe place for our minds to find true peace...not in the thin place, not in the empty place of higher consciousness, not in your core of inner silence, but in the Lord. Rather than emptying our minds, we need to consciously fill them with truth from the Word of God.

Bravo! Bravo!
Well said, Carla.
What do you know about Madame Guyone? Was she part of this crowd?
Yep. Another mystic.

These are quotes from the lighthousetrails link:
"Here [the contemplative state] everything is God. God is everywhere and in all things." —Madam Guyon
"May I hasten to say that the kind of prayer I am speaking of is not a prayer that comes from your mind. It is a prayer that begins in the heart.... Prayer that comes out of the heart is not interrupted by thinking!"—Madam Guyon, Experiencing The Depths of Jesus Christ p. 4]
"All that is of your doing, all that comes from your life-even your most exalted prayer-must first be destroyed before union can come about. All the prayers that proceed from your mind are merely preparations for bringing you to a passive state; any and all active contemplation on your part is also just preparation for bringing you to a passive state. They are preparations. They are not the end. They are a way to the end. The end is union with God!" —Madame Guyon - Experiencing Union with God Through Inner Prayer "
Speaking of Deepak Chopra - you all may enjoy the debate over the existence of satan on Nightline. It features Mark Driscoll, Deepak Chopra and a couple others, Driscol did a great job. Heres the link: http://www.abcnews.go.com/Nightline/FaceOff/
Its probably 1.5hrs, enjoy
Thanks Dustin.
Ya, I'm watching this. It's fascinating. I'm really not a Mark Driscoll fan but he does a great job here.
Wow. That was amazing.
Loved the post. Very insightful. You may be interested in the book Awakening Spirits by Tom Brown, Jr. He discusses THE SILENCE as you refer to it from the view of an Apache Indian, "the worlds of the Sacred Silence seemed more than enough, more than we could ever handle, far less understand."
Thanks for sharing your thoughts in this post.

yea I found that nightline thing on my way to bed, then I had to stay up and watch the whole thing, it was that good!
Driscoll did a very good job countering Deepak Chopra's hypocrisy.
Hello Mindie,
I see that this book is about meditation and self-discovery through nature – a Native American path to inner peace, healing and spiritual growth. The back cover says that you can discover yourself through communication with nature and spirits through the Sacred Silence.
I read another book that says we can find God, the Creator of all nature, if we search for Him with all our heart. In this book I discovered that my true self was desperately wicked and in need of a Saviour, and that the only way to communicate with my Creator was not through spirits or meditation, but through God’s Son, Jesus Christ, who paid a great price to rescue me from myself. I hope and pray you will be interested in reading His amazing book, the Bible, where so many have discovered the source of true peace and wholeness.
“And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”
Oh, and thanks again Dustin. I found it very eye opening.
I agree with you Vee, Driscoll did a great job. I was amazed how Deepak's true colours came out...for all the inner peace, etc., he claims to have evolved to, he certainly displayed the most anger and the least joy of the bunch. Smart guy, but deceived. As for the bishop who doesn't believe in the devil anymore, well, we can be certain that the devil appreciates his ministry.
the only way to communicate with my Creator was not through spirits or meditation, but through God’s Son, Jesus Christ,
You got in in one Carla, our mediator is Christ and we come to Him through the Holy Spirit.
1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, one mediator also between God and men, himself man, Christ Jesus,
