The Books

I had Revelation 20:12 pinned to my bulletin board for years until I cleaned up our office this winter. It was a constant reminder to me that the books we keep are not as important as the books God keeps, and what is written of us. We will all give an account someday. But the interesting thing is, there is more than one book that will be opened when all is said and done, as the following article explains...

"And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works." (Revelation 20:12)

Permit me to set the stage for the scene just described. We are being given an eyewitness account of the Great White Throne Judgment.

"And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. " (Revelation 20:11)

The Great White Throne is the third of the three great judgments outlined by Scripture; the first two being the Believer's Judgment at the Bema Seat and the judgment of the sheep and goat nations.

The Judge is at all three of these judgments is Jesus Christ....
