What does this thing called vigilance mean?

A vigilant Christian is someone who is fully conscious of the spiritual realities of his life in Christ, and derives the motivation and strength for his life from this divine source. He is also conscious of the spiritual dangers posed by the opposing kingdom of Satan and actively resists them. This battle occurs in the spiritual realm of our life since we do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against a hostile spiritual power and its wicked principles (Eph. 6:12). The more we are mindful of the reality of the other, unseen world, the more vigilant we will be. The more secular we are inclined, the lesser we will consider spiritual realities and consequently neglect to order our lives accordingly. To be vigilant in a biblical sense demands that our eyes are open to certain realities and that this knowledge will determine our decisions and actions.
