Things to do when Witnessing to Cultists

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8

~ ~ ~

I was planting seeds and watering the beans one sunny morning last week when they got out of the van and headed down my driveway, oblivious to the barking dogs. These two lovely ladies were nicely dressed, smiling, and beaming with confidence. I admired them for that. I was sweaty and dirty from working in the garden, but as soon as they started talking and pulling out their pamphlets, I said, "Oh, I know, you're Jehovah's Witnesses!" I gave each of them a great big hug, apologizing for my appearance. They were taken aback, a look of disbelief and shock on their faces.

"Oh my, that's different," one said.

We talked for a bit and they went on to the next house. Maybe they will come back, maybe they won't. Later on I thought, now, why on earth did I give them a hug...they are preaching another gospel about another Jesus. Should I have done that? But I think it was something the Lord just put in my heart to do at the moment. He died for us while we were His enemies, while we were lost, so shouldn't we demonstrate that same love to everyone? Not only that, but He knows everything about people, what will drive them away, what will attract them to Him...our job is just to listen for His direction, be full of grace, be available and obey. (On second thought, hopefully my sweaty hug didn't drive them away!)

You just never know when you are planting or watering a seed.

So today when I read this, I realized I might just have done the right thing after all. Here are a few important things to remember when those nicely dressed people come knocking on your door...
