Ever heard of a teaching that says your behavior and problems are caused by what happened to you when you were a child? And that you have to look into your childhhood memories (including your mother's feelings during pregnancy and your birth canal experience), and your ancestry to see what sin has been cursing you, and leading you into sin?

Part 3 briefly mentions Theophostic Prayer which was brought up to me several years ago by a Christian counselor as an option for a guaranteed "breakthrough" (I am stubborn). Upon first hearing of it and brief testimonies of those who have been greatly "blessed" by same, I thought "Oh, a solution to all my problems! When can we start?" But my husband had a bad feeling about it. Sure enough, upon researching it, I learned that it is really a bad thing...and yet many very reputable ministries are training people to go out as counselors (really, "spirit guides") all over! In fact, the man who brought it up said he knew the term "theophostic" would turn up questionable results when I googled it (to say the least) and that he intended to change the name! Needless to say, I promptly quit seeing him...but his ministry, whose main focus is living the abundant life in Christ, is quite successful in our big city.
Dave Hunt's Berean Call had a very informative review of this practice about the time I encountered it:
