According to the e-update (which I would link to but it's not on their website yet), Associated Press reports that…
Brown goes out of his way in "The Lost Symbol" to present the lodge as essentially benign and misunderstood. Masons are praised for their religious tolerance and their elaborate rituals are seen as no more unusual than those of formal religions. And here’s what Dan Brown said in an interview:
"I have enormous respect for the Masons," Brown told The Associated Press during a recent interview. "In the most fundamental terms, with different cultures killing each other over whose version of God is correct, here is a worldwide organization that essentially says, `We don't care what you call God, or what you think about God, only that you believe in a god and let's all stand together as brothers and look in the same direction.'Spiritual Research Network also notes that these are the closing statements of the Associated Press article:
"I think there will be an enormous number of people who will be interested in the Masons after this book (comes out)," Brown said.
Brown is not a Mason, but said that working on the novel helped him imagine a time when religious prejudice would disappear and added that he found the Masonic philosophy a "beautiful blueprint for human spirituality."*To read the entire Associated Press article click here:
He was tempted to join, but, "If you join the Masons you take a vow of secrecy. I could not have written this book if I were a Mason," he says.
And now?
"They've let me know the door is always open."
Freemasons await Dan Brown novel `The Lost Symbol'
Associated Press
I am thankful that Spiritual Research Network is warning about this book. Because the author has influenced and confused so many people already with his other popular books, I find Brown’s statement [that an enormous number of people will be interested in freemasonry after reading his book] disturbing, especially if one looks into the truth about freemasonry.

It is so strange how the Lord works. I thought about emailing you to tell you about my encounter with a free masonic group yesterday. They were called the Rebeccas and they are the female side of the Odd Fellows. They were meeting in a room in the church I work at and when I saw the set up of their room I knew that they were not a Bible study group. One of the ladies shared with me that they perform rituals, do some readings and singing together and are not truly service based. When I asked who can join she said anyone who believes in a singular supreme being. I asked which supreme being are you referring to and she said anyone you want. At this point a head member came over and started looking at me with disgust. This was taking place in the basement of an Anglican church.
