Book Review: Rob Bell's Drops Like StarsRead the rest here @ lighthousetrailsresearch.com (it's quite lengthy but important to read). This review is quite the opposite of raving ones that Rob Bell's fans are giving it. Like this one in Relevant Magazine, which has already given it an trendy nickname (Drops):
Mike Stanwood
What has red gilded pages, a hard cover, and costs more than the average person might pay for a book that can be read in one sitting? From a distance, Rob Bell's gigantic new book Drops like Stars is reminiscent of the Twilight Series look, with red flower and broken petals falling and shattering to pieces against a black backdrop. It looks like something you might find on a table in the corner of your favorite trendy coffee shop. ...
Drops is an exciting new direction for the prolific pastor, both for the maturity of its theological reflection, and for its fascinating—at times stunning—design and visual elements, which play freely in the expansive book’s “coffee table” dimensions.I recently read an interview (pro) where Rob Bell was asked how he got the idea for this unusual book.

"The main idea for the book was birthed several years ago and right away I knew there would be a visual element, because some things have to be seen, trying to describe them just doesn't work. And then I got it in my head that it had to be big and heavy-like you'd get it in your hands and say "whoa, this is a book." and once you have a vision for something you hold on to it with all your might until it actually exists...and then you celebrate."Not only is it big and heavy, so is the price. It's on sale right now at our local Christian book store for $39.99. Like, you'd get it in your hands and say, "whoa, this book costs more than it does to sponsor a precious child with Gospel for Asia for one month." And then you put it back on the shelf, and sadly wonder who will buy it.
