Well now, isn't this just so NOT lovely - the latest scary thing for kids to watch...

Maurice Sendak tells parents to go to hell

*On October 16 (this Friday) the movie version of Maurice Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are" opens in theaters. It's rated PG.

See the movie trailer here:

(My computer froze on this website, by the way, so I watched it at youtube here.)

The special effects look very good, but in light of what the author said, is this a good thing to take your small kids to see? (The book was for kids aged 4-8.) Some say it depends on your child, but I say your small child's heart must be guarded by you, parents.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Philippians 4:8

I wish I had seen this before taking my little girl to this movie. It is awful. Not scary, just very very sad. There is a tone of hopelessness that is never resolved in the movie. The moral seems to be that life stinks, and no one has any answers. After Max says he is king, a couple of characters state sadly that there is no such thing as a king who has the answers. Fortunately, my family knows better, and we serve a King who does have the answers!

Thanks for sharing that.

Sounds kind of rotten, like the attitude of the author of the book. No wonder.
