LOUISVILLE, KY - A poll of members of the Presbyterian Church USA shows a significant percentage of them now reject the exclusivity of the gospel message.

The Statement of Faith of the nation's largest Presbyterian denomination says God through Jesus Christ delivers followers "from death to life eternal."

But a poll done by the Presbyterian Panel's "Religious and Demographic Profile of Presbyterians" found that 36 percent of members disagreed or strongly disagreed with the statement: "Only followers of Jesus Christ can be saved."

Another 39 percent, or about two-fifths, agreed or strongly agreed with the statement.

A shocking thing, isn't it? To have the Bible, and be free to read it without being thrown in jail, but to not even believe it.

For those who can't for the life of them remember what Bible verse John 14:6 is, it's Jesus's answer to Thomas, who has just asked him how can we know the way (to the Father's house, or heaven)...

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

According to the poll, 1/3 of Presbyterians don't agree with Jesus, but I wonder how many in the emerging church today would vote the same way...
