About that Book - The New Pharisaism: How Spiritual Bullies Attack the Church

About that new e-book called The New Pharisaism: How Spiritual Bullies Attack the Church by Bill Slabaugh...

I have been called a lot of things but never a "bully" and never a "Pharisee." But since I am referenced in a sad new book, The New Pharisaism: How Spiritual Bullies Attack the Church," I felt I needed to respond to this pathetic attempt to call good ministries and leaders Pharisees just because they are contending for the faith in an apostate climate.

About a decade ago a new kind of ministry came along as a a result of rising apostasy and false teaching. They were branded as "discernment ministries" and that is probably pretty accurate. Olive Tree Ministries started out with a pro-Israel slant as well as being an end-time watcher. Today we also find ourselves trying to defend the faith and encouraging discernment in the church (Luke 12:56; Proverbs 2:3).

What discernment ministries are trying to do is take a stand against those who have hijacked evangelicalism in the last 30 years...

How ironic that Bill Slabaugh charges money for his e-book while claiming that "bully" ministries like Ray Yungen, Dave Hunt and The Berean Call, Crosstalk America, Lighthouse Trails Research Project, Media Spotlight, Southwest Radio Church, Apprising Ministries, and Understanding the Times have used their platforms for their own selfish gain and self-promoting agenda.

I am so opposed to Slabaugh's slanted slant that I won't even link to his book URL (I personally think his claims are ridiculous), so y'all are going to have to find it yourselves, but I just want to say - thank you Mr. Slabaugh, because by going to such efforts, you have simply shown us all that the hard work of these wonderful, faithful men and women in these discernment ministries you have listed is having a huge impact.

UPDATE:

The New Pharisaism Eric Barger and Jan talk about the new book, "The New Pharisaism: How Spiritual Bullies Attack the Church." Why are much-needed discernment ministries, including Eric's and Jan's, being called bullies when they are only "contending for the faith"? These two ministries and a couple-dozen more, are exposing the abusers of evangelicalism over the last 25 years. Most churches are silent about exposing false teachers and false theologies, but when discernment ministries speak up, they are labeled divisive and behaving as bullies.

I'm pretty creeped out by how specifically Mr Slabaugh knew what radio programs and websites I follow.

Yeah, funny how he picked several of my fav's as well... haha. :)

Does that mean we are all painted with the same Pharisee brush?

Ooh, didn't you know that you're tainted even by listening to us.

Painted and tainted? Oh my.

Slabaugh's contentious attacks are ridiculous. It's almost as if he never got over being bullied as a kid, so he is now taking it out on those who will turn the other cheek...

I agree that his claims are ridiculous. Ask anyone who has had to leave their church because of these things. He's like a squeaky wheel on a broken wagon, and nothing more.
