One of those things that make me say, 'huh'?

Here's an interesting thing I follow now and then. It all started a few years back in my early blogging days, when I went to hear a lecture on the Psalms by author James Houston (colleague of Eugene Peterson, contemplative author of The Message). He began the lecture by telling the audience about...
...some very "exciting news" that he was very happy to announce. He said that no one knew this yet but the King of Jordan(King Abdullah) had recently become a Christian and was going to attend the upcoming Feb. 2nd prayer breakfast in Washington and we should all be very excited and happy about this.

[Of course the audience clapped upon hearing this news; but the rest of the post at the above link follows up on why they needn't have.]

So anyways, now this same king (who James Houston emphatically told us had become a Christian) is calling for action to protect the holy sites in east Jerusalem, namely the al-Aqsa Mosque. He also stands behind the Palestinian Authority and his country’s " rejection and rebuke of Israel's decision to include Rachel's Tomb and the Cave of the Patriarchs on its list of national heritage sites."

So Mr. Houston, what was that you were telling us again?

There is much more to this than meets the eye which I am not about to get into, but for now let's just say it's one of those things I follow that typically continues to make me say, 'huh'? The simple moral of the story seems to clearly be the old adage with a post-modern twist...

Don't believe everything you hear - even (or especially?) if you heard it in a Bible based evangelical mega church where everyone claps for it.
