She had typed out a long flowery essay the week before. Not only typed it, but retyped, deleted, rewrote, added, changed, turned it up side down and back again, and then revised it a few more times than she would ever admit. In the end, the blogger was was not at all satisfied with her speech. The question was, would the people of the land of Blog willingly let her go? No matter what she did, her long spiel was still filled with too many I's and me's and a bunch of sentimental fluffiness, none of which was important in the scheme of things, not to mention it would have surely bored even her best friends to death. So she scrapped that idea and decided to go with the nutshell version (revised, of course). It sounded a wee bit calloused, short and to the point, not unlike a telegram, but she was feeling more excited than sentimental and sappy by the minute, as evidenced by the forgotten second cup of coffee that had now grown cold. Uncut and raw, it went something like this...
"Kay - here's the thing - I'm officially unplugging myself from the land of Blog - sad to say I'm on my way, won't be back for many a day - when and if I return (if the Lord wills) the format will be oh so completely, unrecognizably different...have I mentioned I'm tired of brown?Tired of monkeying around with it, and wanting to get on with the work at hand, the blogger knew that if she didn't post this today, this very minute, she would end up changing, retyping, and revising it over and over, being the perfectionist she was. If she took too long, she knew it would only be a matter of hours before another reader would write her and win her affections, filling her with remorse and regret over her decision, like so many countless other times before, and she would not have the nerve to carry out her threats to leave. Needing inspiration, she took a deep breath and glanced over at her bulletin board at the quote she had printed out a few days earlier from an article she'd read...
don't worry - will tell you
...til then - God bless, Jesus is coming back soon, may you be found living your lives for Him!"
"After all, editors around the world are sitting at their desks, checking their watches, waiting to open an envelope from the next Mark Twain."If that's true," whispered the blogger, "I'd better get to work."
It happens.
Sometimes."

The coffee maker beeped three loud high pitched shut off beeps. Had two hours already passed? The blogger thought about how all her life experiences had been guided by the hand of God for such a time as this. Already the creative juices were flowing through her slowly unfogging blogging brain, waiting to burst out onto a blank page. A picture of the lonely white shiny MacBook she had met in the store just two short days ago, with it's glow in the dark keyboard, and long lasting 10 hour battery, flashed before her. "I'm coming back to buy you," she had practiced typing on its pretty black keys. Yes, this was the right thing to do. There would never be another moment like this. It was now or never. The blogger swallowed a sip of cold coffee, took a deep breath, and without further hesitation, clicked on PUBLISH POST.
Strange how she had always thought this inevitable moment would be a sad one. How wrong she had been. There was no turning back now. Someday she would be able to come back, but before she left, there was still one more very important thing (or two) she simply had to say to the swamp people before she closed the window which had miraculously opened to the swampland of Blog five years ago...

To paraphrase another blogger's sentiments: "all the bloggers are turning into authors."
Being a faithful reader, it's terribly hard to let go, but I know when you pursue after Him, He gives you the desires of your heart and will bless you accordingly.
Still waiting for the other shoe to drop...better get the box of tissue ready...
You're a gem, Pearl. :)
The "other shoe," as you call it, is scheduled to drop in a few minutes from now, and is the only post that is truly kleenex worthy as it's about the only One who is worthy.
Thanks so much for all the years of insight, sharing, and creativity. May God continue to use your gifts in other areas, dear friend. I for one have been inspired by your story, and will never forget the lessons you have shared on your journey. I will forever be grateful that somebody like you was not afraid to tell the truth. It has made a difference in my life.
If you write a book, I'll read it -- but first I need to somehow learn your last name.
I will greatly miss your blog and insights!
Rich Blessings,
SF
Thank you, my courageous friend Dawn. I admire how you've boldly shared your inspiring story. You've been a huge blessing to me!
Hi there SF - that's if I use my last name. :)
And you've all got my e-mail, so let's definitely keep in touch.
I'll miss ya...Blessings
wow, I am saddened because you are my favorite blog.. ger. :)
I will miss you.
Cheryl
Wow.
You will definitely be missed.
I already feel your absence from Blogland.
But time is short, and whatever good works our Savior has planned for you to do before His return must be done, without delay.
Cheering you on, my friend!!
Keep up the good fight. :)
So today's the day. It's early morning here in Australia and your blog is always the first one I visit in those very early hours of the morning. Feeling a little sad about the news to be honest with you. I am sure I am not the only one.
But I just know that this decision is one that has been put on your heart by God Himself. May God always be first in your heart Carla.
I will never forget the first time I met you in blogland. I had started my blog and I think that you were one of the first referrals and link connections that I ever had to my blog.
I went over to see who was other blogger who was generous enough to link to my blog, and that is how I met you. What a great blessing you have been to me since then. I will always consider you to be one of my best friends even though we have never met in the flesh. I love our emails that we share with what is going on in our lives. I have received so much encouragement from you and guidance too.
May you run after God's heart Carla and I pray for much peace for you and your most precious family.
I love you xxx
Vee
Rusty, thanks, same here.
Cheryl, okay, now I'm sad. :)
Thanx Dee.
Oh Vee,
Sniff sniff.
Unexpected words. Thanx - I'm very thankful that our paths crossed. Of course I will still be commenting on your blog from my side of the world. :)
God bless you and your family.
Remember the other day we were discussing how our households were so busy? This morning while tidying up I picked up 11 socks off the front porch from here and there after last night's feeding of the multitudes - only 4 of them matched, several were soaking wet. And I laughed and wondered if that ever happens to you. Haha.
Of course, my blog may be done, but the (e)mail must go on. :)
My front porch has a lot of stuff on it. Number two daughter cleaned out her car yesterday which was filled with bags, shoes, towels and many other things. I would be happy just to have a few odd socks hahaha...
But right now, I am sitting here in the lounge with the heater on watching my little Grandson attempting to read a few of his books. Such joy when I look at him.
It's like we live in a parallel universe isn't it :)
Yeah...it's like if I reach out I can almost touch you...
:)
hahaha... we need a worm hole!
I'm running behind as usual Carla, but wanted to take a moment to tell you that I wish you all the best and I'm sure the Lord will bless any effort you undertake for Him. Don't be a stranger though and let us know when your book comes out ok? God bless you!
Thanks! Sure will Cindy...I've heard these things can take years. :)
Wow..I know it sounds silly but this will be hard for me! But you are doing the right thing. Please know you will be missed..(horribly) and I wish you well. God Bless and keep you through your new endeavors.
Hey Janie,
Drop me an e-mail. :)
But WAIT. Your blog is one of only a few that I read regularly! And I don't email or comment often because I don't want to be a pest! And you've been SO helpful!!!
AND I need you to review just one more book before you go. :) I saw in our bulletin today that one of our fall "discipleship opportunities" will be a study of the book titled, The Hole in Our Gospel. Are you familiar with it?
Well, while I do appear to be throwing a fit, in all seriousness, I want to thank you for your work and please know tha t you will be missed terribly!
Guess what! I just found where you've already discussed the book I just asked about. Silly me.
But ...sniff sniff .... I'm still going to miss you!
I'm terribly sorry to have made so many people sad, including you, Erin. I'm glad you found the post on that book which, unfortunately, is just one more thing that shows how Christians are gravitating to the social gospel.
And thanks to everyone who has sent similar e-mails. Sorry to have made you all sad...it truly warms my heart. I will be back someday, somehow, somewhere...over the rainbow...
:)
Will you leave everything as it is so we can at least refer to past posts? Case in point .... apparently I'm a little late on researching this book. Someone said, "It's been out for a while." Well I'd never heard of it until I saw it, choke, on our list of discipleship opportunities at the church. So .......... we need to be able to use your past posts for future research. :D
Hi Erin,
Yes, I will leave it up just the way it is. Feel free to use anything, copy and paste anything, link to anything, or pass anything on. Whatever helps. :)
By the way, if someone wants to carry on the torch...anyone out there can start a blog...please give it a try. If I can do it, anyone can!
Carla,
It took me a bit to figure out what you were saying but having a blog of my own and knowing the time that is involved I do understand your decision.
The answer to item 8 in that article is "yes" there will be a gap that nobody else will fill.
What we both probably fail to understand as Christian bloggers is how one can spend some much time, give out so much useful information for years and then see such little response from Christians?
I think we know how pastors feel that can never get more than the ever few faithful to attend anything other than the Sunday morning service.
If you find a new approach or start something new let me know about it.
I do know that a static website takes a lot less time. You might think about such a website if you find the time. You will need it anyway to promote your book.
If I had to do it over I would never have started blogging. I just would have added most of what I write about on my blog to my website.
I guess I will give up the blogging effort myself if I do not break the 1000 visits a day barrier before the end of the year. Putting in 80 hours weeks is getting a bit old (I am slow).
Anyway, thanks for all the good information and for spending almost all your time trying to inform us about issues we probably would not have found out about anywhere else.
Take a long rest and enjoy your loved ones. Then write that book or whatever God leads you to do.
Blessings in Christ,
Don
Hi Don,
I hear what you are saying about the response. Even so, I've been pretty much content to wait for the praise of God rather than hear the response from people...any results of my labor are up to Him, and even if I never find out that's okay...but you sure make a good point regarding pastors and the few faithful.
Another thing about reader response - I think a lot of people just don't comment on blogs because they are shy or don't even know how. Many of them are very fast skim readers and don't click on links unless they are really interested. I know those numbers (or lack of them) can be discouraging, but big numbers and responses can also puff up one's head - I've experienced both, but in the end I believe that what counts is the effectiveness of writing what the Lord puts on your heart, even if it's for just one person. The ripple effect of that is something that can't be measured by even the best stat tracker.
Anyways, thanks for your encouragement!!!
True, but what it really comes down to for me is being a good steward of the time that I am given.
I am sure that all your readers agree that you done a fine job with your blog and that your reward in heaven will reflect that.
Blessings,
Don
Definitely - we all need to be good stewards of our time, especially since we're not really given a whole lot of that, in the big scheme of things.
If a blogger isn't careful, I think that blogs (even though they are good tools) can be one of the biggest time sponges, both for bloggers and readers.
Carla....pleeeeeeeze come back.....we neeeeeeed you.
So many benefit from your work whether you are aware or not.No other site is as diverse and easily navigated.
Perhaps you could fit us in one every week or two.
